APPLE FRITTERS AT BERGHAUS KANISFLUH

Berghaus Kanisfluh. Apple fritters. And the best view in the Bregenzerwald. Up high, shorts on, panorama all around — and apple fritters afterward. Grandma's favorite outing. And ours too.

When Grandma Angelika gives you a tip for an outing, you listen. And this one's been the same for years: up to Schnepfegg, into Berghaus Kanisfluh, order the apple fritters, take in the view, forget about everything else.

The Berghaus sits above Schnepfau, with a panoramic view over the back of the Bregenzerwald — the Kanisfluh right in front of you, the valley far below. The Moosmann family has run the house for three generations now, and you can tell: this is someone's home, not just a place of business. The terrace is generous, the view even more so, and the kitchen does exactly what it should — honest, regional, without any fuss.

And then there are the apple fritters, or maybe an ice cream sundae. Warm, crispy, dusted with powdered sugar. The reason you come back. And come back again. Add a coffee, the mountains, maybe a slice of cake — and suddenly the afternoon is gone, without you even noticing.

The nicest way to get there is on foot — from Schnepfau up to Schnepfegg, through meadows and forest, with the Berghaus waiting as your reward at the top. For the way back, just take the same route again — or simply stay a little longer.
