Hike Kanisfluh
Up early. Worth it. The landmark of the Bregenzerwald, visible right from GADÔ. Get up early enough, and you'll catch the Kanisfluh in the first light — and understand right away why you came here.

Early risers have it good here. While everyone else is still asleep, the climb up to the Kanisfluh begins at Alpengasthof Edelweiß in Au — the landmark of the Bregenzerwald, hard to miss from Bezau.
The way up isn't a stroll, but it's one that pays back every bit of effort. At the top, the panorama waits: Bregenzerwald, Rhine Valley, Lake Constance, the Alps in every direction, and sometimes even an ibex. And that particular light that only exists when the day is just beginning — or just about to end.
If you'd rather experience the mountains at dusk, do the same tour in reverse: climb as the sun sinks lower, and head back down as the sky starts to burn. Both work. Both stay with you.
The Kanisfluh is no hidden gem. But some things are well-known simply because they're that good.
