Museum Bezau

Old meets new, the past meets the present — and whoever understands what GADÔ means also understands why a visit to the Bezau Museum belongs here.

The Museum Bezau is just a few minutes' walk from GADÔ — and whoever enters there understands the Bregenzerwald a little better.

The house itself is an exhibit: a historic Bregenzerwald farmhouse, expanded by a modern extension by the architects Innauer Matt. Two architectural worlds under one roof that get along surprisingly well.

Inside, four narrative frames unfold. Bregenzerwälder living culture — and thus the origin of our name: The typical living section of an old house here consisted of the Kuche, the Stubô, and the Gadô. The parents' bedroom. In addition, the museum tells of the women in the Bregenzerwald and their craftsmanship in embroidery and traditional costume, of the Baroque master builders who contributed to buildings all over Europe after the Thirty Years' War — and of the self-image of a region that has always known who it is.

The special exhibition "Foto Hiller. Bregenzerwald in Photographs" runs until April 2027 — one hundred years of regional history in pictures, captured by a family of photographers who documented the valley and its people for decades. Worth seeing.
