Frauenmuseum Hittisau
The first and only women's museum in Austria. And the only one in the world in a rural area. In the middle of the Bregenzerwald, in Hittisau.

Sometimes the most extraordinary places are found where you least expect them. The Frauenmuseum Hittisau is one of those places. Founded in 2000 on the initiative of Elisabeth Stöckler, it has since shown over 45 exhibitions on topics relevant to women — and has never stopped asking uncomfortable questions.
The building itself has already won awards — designed by Cukrowicz Nachbaur Architekten, nestled within the fire station and cultural centre in Hittisau. Inside, art, history and the present day meet in a way that makes you think and stays with you long after.
Over 45 exhibitions on topics relevant to women — work, the body, power, craft, war and peace. Subjects bigger than any single exhibition, yet made tangible here. What's currently on show changes — but a visit is always worth it.
Hittisau is easily reached from Bezau — and the detour is always worth it.
